Education

Foothill Junior College, Los Altos, California

Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, California, Advertising Design and Illustration

University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Oklahoma, MFA in Painting

Originally from Palo Alto, California, I have been a Michigan based painter for over twenty-five years. In California I worked half-time as a graphic designer/illustrator, and half-time as a painter. As I became more viable as a painter I quit working as a designer and illustrator. Eventually moving to Michigan I became a full-time Assistant and Associate Professor at Kendall College of Art and Design, where I was also the Chair of Design Studies.

In 1996 I moved to Grand Valley State University to create an Illustration program. At GVSU I was a Full Professor and the coordinator of Illustration until my retirement at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. While at GVSU I taught drawing, color and design, figure painting and all levels of illustration. I am currently a full-time painter concentrating on landscapes.

As a professional painter for over forty years I've participated in numerous artist-in-residencies and have a great deal of experience working with clients on commissions. My work is represented in many public and private collections.
