Originally from the San Francisco bay area, I have been a Michigan based painter for over twenty-five years. In California I made my living working half-time as a graphic designer and illustrator while devoting the other half of my time to painting. As I became more viable as a painter I dropped off working as a designer and illustrator. Eventually moving to Michigan I became a full-time Assistant and Associate Professor at Kendall College of Art and Design, where I was also the Chair of Design Studies.
In 1996 I was hired by Grand Valley State University to create an Illustration program. At GVSU I was a Full Professor and the coordinator of Illustration until my retirement at the end of the 2014-15 academic year. While at GVSU I taught drawing, color and design, figure painting and illustration. I am currently a full-time painter.
As a professional painter for over forty years I have participated in numerous group and one person shows. I've created many paintings as a part of artist-in-residencies and commissions. My work is included in both public and private collections.
